The Best Women's match I ever saw , certainly from Flushing Meadows, was this:-

    Followed closely by this -

Poor Jennifer. Three time a semifinalist (1991,2003,2004) at the US Open and losing each time on a final set tiebreaker

Edberg/Becker in 88 at Wimbledon goes down as one my faves of all time. Huge Edberg fan.

    good on you mate.

Do you know the history about this one ? Probably the greatest Davis Cup match ! Played, July 11 1982, one week after McEnroe losing marathon Wimbledon final to Connors.

17year old Nadal at the Australian Open, 2004. He reached the third round losing to Lleyton Hewitt. They met again the following year in the 4 Rd where Hewitt won in 5 tough sets.

Really great to find this 1991 Big W final. I was a huge Steffi fan in those days. This is from US television (probably NBC) and features the late Bud Collins as one of the commentators. US broadcast of Wimbledon are really interesting because they offer extra camera angles/views that the BBC did not have.

Hey @Robert Zimmerman - did Oz have their own commentators at Wimbledon in the 80s or did they use British or American commentary?

Yes, it was with different commentators on the nine network, usually Fred Stolle, Tony Trabert and Betsy Nagleson (she was one of the best ever).

britbox I just found some french tv highlights of Edberg vs Miloslav Mecir 1988 semifinal at the Big W. Edberg was down two sets to love and 3-1 in the 5th set. A really great game and remember this as though it were yesterday.

I was a big Edberg fan mate and that match was huge. Mecir had knocked him out of Wimbledon a couple of years earlier, and was known as the "Swede" killer as he had a good record against all the top swedes... Edberg had actually turned the corner with Mecir and beaten him 9-7 in a fifth set in the Davis Cup... but I watched this live and thought Edberg was cooked. He came back and went onto win the whole thing. Thanks for putting it up!

britbox, yeah that '88 sf was an awesome match. There is another version of the full match but in italian (but average qual).
Think Stefan came back from a similar deficit against Boris Becker in the 1990 final, in another epic three hour match.

I still prefer the 88 final with Becker, largely because I was huge Edberg fan and he had a pretty low profile despite winning 2 AOs - most casual fans in the UK only really watched Wimbledon and I'd been telling my pals at the time he was the real deal, especially on grass... only to shaking heads... Becker was the young darling of Wimbledon and had a huge profile after his back to back titles in 85 and 86. Most thought Edberg was there to make up the numbers. It was a great performance by Stefan.

In 1985 and 1986, Edberg's attitude on the court was questionable and his coach Tony Picard slowly helped him overcome the 'hang dog' look he had. He listened and toughen up mentally. That was apparent in his 1987 AO win vs Pat Cash, his Wimbly '88 semifinal win vs Mecir, 1992 US Open come from behind wins at the 1991 and 1992 USO both matches vs Michael Chang. Great times to be watching him.

I have a new video. It's the closing games of the 1998 Australian Hardcourt semi-final - Hewitt vs Agassi this time.
