The Belorussian hackers called Fancy Bears released now documents which allowed Rafa to take prohibited medicines on 2 occasions in past.

To me this is next to nothing considering that Wada in early 2012 legalised the blood treatment that Nadal was using and that was banned prior to the legalisation. No one mentions it anymore but that is actually one of the finest examples of corruption in all Wada, ITF and ATP, isn't it?

I'm going to wait for the whole thing to unfold... reckon there is plenty more to come...

The whole episode generally, clearly shows there is an issue with exemptions and the furore from the organizations and the western media on this information coming out also indicate that there is an issue with transparency.

I'm just agog that a cigar smoking, whisky drinking dude like me takes less medication than these super fit athletes. Stunning!

Seriously I don't think they are that fit though! They go for short term strength and stamina. There is a big price for that.
Remember FloJo? And look at Becker. I bet you make better old bones than many tenns players and athletes. In spite of the cigars!

(Lifts her glass of scotch to you) ☺

Well... Becker is waaaay past his prime, and we all know Flojo was taking EPO. Her cause of death was the classic endgame for EPO use in those days

    Much much more to come.

I doubt we can ever achieve clean sport again, if it ever was clean. Is it worth the money spent on prevention/detection? We could see sport just as entertainment. We don't worry what medication singers and musicians take, we just enjoy the music. Resources might be better spent on providing sports facilities for young people perhaps. What ever we do prevention wise cannot keep up with increasingly sophisticated ways of cheating.

I don't think there is a performance enhancement drug that doesn't have a health cost, be it heart, kidneys or liver. Add the wear and tear on the body. They may look superfit but underneath they are damaged. I'd rather have the whisky thanks, but hold the cigars!

Off topic, ROS through first round of Shanghai Masters looking rusty but fitter than any tennis player I've seen recently! He plays r2 tomorrow, Eurosport, 12.30ish

This Fancy Bear agency is such a crock. First of all, isn't it Russian? And don't they think that everyone is out to "get them" ever since Maria and her fellow Russians were busted for doping? Where were they BEFORE Maria was busted? Pretty quiet, so much so that they weren't on anyone's radar. Now, that their "star" has been busted they're now scrounging around in the dumpster trying to taint other athletes. First on the list are, this can't be, The Williams Sisters and Rafael Nadal. Who didn't see this coming? I sure did; in fact, I was waiting for it.

But, just as in the case of Maria, "the anointed one" not one word of doping was ever uttered in the past. The best way to find the "cheats" IMO, is to look at the ones whose names NEVER come up. Those are the guilty ones that are being protected. See Maria, who was only outed because she took the drugs for a decade and refused to stop to the point where WADA had to do something because she was gaining an unfair advantage. Had Maria stopped in year nine we wouldn't have been none the wiser, but to take it in competition was simply another slap in the face to the WADA organization.

Notably missing from this narrative is the fact that the other athletes that they are trying to besmirch had full transparency. They asked BEFORE taking the drug and received approval. Everything else is pure bull.

Why do you think that the procedures Nadal used for his knees were illegal when he used them and legalized later. I think you should show some back-up to that. He's always said what he was doing for his knees, etc., and likely because he was slandered with doping allegations so early in his career.

I think this thread named "Nadal under cover of WADA" is the most absurd title that I've read around here
First at all when Nadal went through the knee treatment he said and explaining all about it, how was the process which Germany started first with those treatments and also there is in Spain a very well known Doctor who treats the soccer players which are suffering a lot with their knees. He was under the WADA supervision and permission and by the way he was NOT playing.
I don't know if some posters know that any medication to treat the injuries have certain substances which are banned but depending the amount and how long is taken i and in what circumstances WADA has to give the permission because EVERY single injured player needs to take those kind of medicines to improve and heal the problem.
Russia after so many dope problems is trying everything against anyone or at least to who they think are enemies (he has many allies too and of course they are not going to do anything against them) but that stupid document about the Nadal knee treatment is NOTHING that can affect him because it's very known already the treatment he got and he was the first one to ask that his records and tests can be open to the public because he doesn't have anything to hide. My question is, every single player could do and agree with that? I don't think so

The one who starts the thread gets to name it, even if it IS slanted. That's not especially new.

From what I hear people who worry about this say there are countries where children as young as 12 are in the development program which includes doping. The country is a Western one famous for those thing in cold war era. They say they never stopped.

And here where I live we read of parents giving their children things like medication for hyperactivity even if they are not hyperactive just to make them perform in sports like superhumans. I also think that I saw some of those strangely "capable" children in action though I can't be sure.

I would suggest that THAT would be worth a citation, and not just your anecdotal remembering. Seriously, Mastoor...what you just said has no bearing on reality, unless you back it up. Either you bother to look something up, or you are recounting fairy tales. And putting up fairy stories, because you like the way they sound, is bad business on the internet. Someone might mistakenly believe them. But I suspect that's what you hope.

Yes, but, you can sit around smoking cigars and drinking whisky at some reasonable rate and not challenge your health, overmuch, or your job performance. Professional athletes tax their bodies at a level that is not comparable. They likely get injured more often than you do, stumbling around the entertainment center. They have to negotiate those injuries, their doctors' recommendations, and the WADA regulations against x-number of options. It's a funny remark, but not worth anyone taking it to heart, versus what professional athletes face, and why drugs and interventions would be legally and necessarily involved. Their bodies are heavily taxed. Everything from injury-relief to allergy-relief is scrutinized. There is a reason for TUE's, and I don't think they should be immediately considered a WADA conspiracy. (Not that you said that.)

Journalists, commentators, fans, et al, are always trying to find a way to spin the facts into what they wish it to be. So many of these arguments are so lightweight and bogus.

what i find funny as i silently watch the remarks cropping up is this:

most of you seemed to have NO PROBLEM with issuing condemnation of a RUSSKIE maria sharapova or were something found about NOLE the SLAV...

especially when it's because "wada discovered" them...

now that it HITS MANY FAVORITE WESTERN IDOLS -- IT IS somehow ''excusable"...for such players (which include MY tennis gods, like rafa and serena) - that there are so MANY of them on drugs for which a SHARAPOVA or DJOKOVIC OR TROICKI

would be or have been crucified like they were the biggest mafioso on earth...

it is fascinating to show how the double standards REALLY crawl out of the walls...

once agian -- i repeate -- as i had warned in JANUARY when everone jumped on MARIA'S CASE -- with all kinds of STRICTURES as to why she was GUILTY FOR ''CHEATING"

this was NEVER ABOUT PLAYERS taking medication or PED -- or whatever it is they need or want to enhance their careers...

it WAS ALWAYS ABOUT WADA and its us-uk-canada-western controlled system of judgment and ''penalties" that are used for POLITICAL reasons towards russia, and any country deemed INSUFFICIENTLY OBEDIENT to the western imperial paradigm

such as 'russia must be isolated"

THEREFORE -- include ts sports...just as sanctions , etc. etc. etc..

some of you need to face yourselves in the mirror as to how easily you are finding excuses or poo--pooing favorites for much the SAME finractions -- AND REPEATEDLY SO -- that were SECRETLY KEPT from the pulbic in WADA'S ''Permit'' issuances

that you yourselves or much of the western audience would not be caught giving the same ''allowances" towards someone named MARIA sharapova -- or if it were nole, or some slavic person -- that you so READILY GIVE to the nadal's, williamses, murray,s etc. etc. etc. when they or were they ever found out to have been given dispensations DENIED to someone such as maria for example or nole.
