No1e won 23 top 10 matches this year and I wonder if that is the record number of top 10 wins in a year before WTF, where they all play at least 3 more matches.

I had a brief look at Fedal's best years and the only close record I found is Nadal in 2013 when he had 20 top 10 wins before WTF and another 4 in London.  Federer was never close with his top 10 wins count according to what I saw.

Do you know other examples of large number of top 10 wins possibly better than Rafa's 2013 and No1e's 2015?

Federer may have been close in 2006... he only lost to Nadal smd Murray all year.

Wikipedia and players career stats are good for recent top players,..most of top blokes have top 10 wins per year included.

There is a reason why Nole has so many top 10 wins this year (he was pretty good in 2011 I believe in this statistics, and absolute best from the beginning of 2011).  He only played 1 ATP250 and 2 ATP500 tournaments, the rest are M1000 and majors.  Additionally, he made all finals but 1 so far and the top 10 players are less prone to upsets than in previous years (2008 and before).  He had to face a top ten player in finals and semi finals most of the time.  A couple of them might be upset earlier, but for the most part they usually make it to semi finals and finals.

Thanks for the tip Jesus. I'll check Big 3 stats on wikipedia in this respect hoping to compile their top list. I doubt there was anyone before them with better record because Big 3 lead the all time top 10 wins list in front of Sampras and others.

Here is the list using records from Wikipedia. It is all year long records, not just before atp finals like I previously mentioned.

    1. Djokovic, 24, 2012
    1. Djokovic, 24, 2013
    1. Nadal, 24, 2013
    4. Djokovic, 23, 2015
    5. Djokovic, 21, 2011
    6. Federer, 19, 2006
    6. Djokovic, 19, 2014
    8. Federer, 18, 2004

This means there are 3 best years with 24 wins against top tenners, 2012 and 2013 for No1e and 2013 for Rafa, however No1e will likely make new record in this year if he stays healthy.

Wow that is so many top 10 wins.  Even in 2012 and 2013 where Nole's results weren't nearly as good as these days.  Great stuff! :good:

^^ Nole got his 24th top ten win today against Andy.

This article lists some of the great stats for Nole in China and overall:

    http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/10/novak-djokovic-stats-18-set-in-a-row-winning-streak-shanghai-masters-rankings

    I like this part:

    5. Add up the rankings points of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, John Isner and Nick Kyrgios and you still wouldn’t pass Djokovic.

    6. And we’ve saved the best for last (via Andrew Burton): In 2007 in Miami, Novak Djokovic won his first Masters 1000 title. Since then, no player younger than Djokovic has won one of those titles. The Djoker is the youngest of the Big Four (Murray has him by a week) and in those eight years, no one else has risen to the challenge.

Pity No1e can't improve his record in the final because Tsonga is ranked outside top 10.

The Shanghai final against Tsonga is No1e's 13th final in a row, 8 he won so far, 4 he lost. Is this a record for number of consecutive finals and if it isn't, what is?

So you don't read all my posts, do you?   Previously Federer had 11 straight finals.

I think I skim them all though. ;-) I don't recall that one about Fed's 11 finals.  Seems Fed had 16 straight finals in 2006, so No1e will have to make finals in Paris and London and then in Doha next year to equalise that record.

New records No1e made is most ATP points ever and he is also the first player ever to collect more than US$17M prize money in a year.

Another one is equalising his own and also Rafa's record 5 masters titles in a year.

Federer had 11 consecutive finals in 2006, but at the end of 2005 he had 6 more so that gives him 17 consecutive finals (2 seasons).

Nole had 13 consecutive finals in this season, 2015, so that is a record for one season.

I read that in this article:  http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/news/djokovic-fine-tuning-form

OK, so per season No1e's equal to Rafa's 2013, but he has some more titles to win to get to Fed's record over 2 seasons.

Where did you get that Nadal had 13 consecutive finals?

This is what the article says:  Djokovic is a seeking his career-high 13th straight final since falling in the quarter-finals in Doha to start the year (l. to Ivo Karlovic). The last player to reach 10 or more consecutive finals in a season was Federer (11 in 2006, 17 dating back to 2005).

True, i made mistake when i counted Rafa's wins in 2013, i skipped over first round loss at Wimbledon. i haven't read that article, but decided to count streaks on my own looking at the best years of big 3.

Top List of number of matches won against Top 10 players

    1. Djokovic, 27, 2015 current

    2. Djokovic, 24, 2012

    2. Djokovic, 24, 2013

    2. Nadal, 24, 2013

    5. Djokovic, 21, 2011

    6. Federer, 19, 2006

    6. Djokovic, 19, 2014

    8. Federer, 18, 2004

There are several things that can be inferred from the list and I'll talk about them when we have a final count for the season, after No1e finishes at WTF.

Other records No1e made is record number of Masters titles won in a season which is 6. For those who feel like saying big deal, Sampras won 11 in his entire career, while No1e won more than half of it this year.  Also, No1e's 2011 matches Rafa's record 5 titles in 2013 and No1e's 2014 matches Fed's record 4 titles in 2005. Total number of masters won, No1e is still 1 behind Rafa's record 27.

Record 14 consecutive finals in a season, which includes 3 slams, 6 masters, one 500 level title and 4 finals (RG, Canada, Cincy, Dubai).

Record prize money, final balance yet to come but Wikipedia says it's $16,760,145 now, before London and adding bonus for eoy #1. Almost 90 millions at the age of 28, imagine that. Next year both Fed and No1e may go 9 figure.
