Taro Daniel’s straight sets win over American Jack Sock was the biggest surprise of the day in an otherwise predictable opening day of the Rio Olympics.  Sock went down in straight sets (6-4 6-4) to the unheralded Japanese-American.

Japan’s Kei Nishikori continued his recent good form with a straightforward win over Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Stocks in Grigor Dimitrov plunged to a new low as the former starlet was dismantled with relative easy by Croatia’s Marin Cilic 6-1 6-4.
